Welles hated movies

Well, that was a bit clickbaity…

I apologize.

But, my phrase is inspired by something Orsen Welles said himself: WHen asked what his biggest regret in life was, he replied: “falling in love with movies. I would´ve been better off without them.”

He said that his love for movies occurred naturally, just like you fall in love with another person.

He also said that he would´ve preferred not to fall in love with cinema since it´s so bothersome and takes so much time, money, and resources to achieve. It´s too difficult. In his mind, he has wasted his life dedicating himself to movies, having been able to do something else (something better…?)

But his love for movies was too big. He couldn´t give it up.

I´ve thought about these words many times. What do they mean exactly?

Perhaps the process of making a movie was too much of a burden for him. I can´t imagine how exhausting it must be to do one.

But he loved the end result so much.

The process of creating any work of art, let alone the process of acquiring the tools to be able to do it (decades of dedication and practice in many cases) is certainly exhausting.

But in my case, it also gives me an electrical charge, filling me with energy.

I´m always excited about the next project, the next work I have to learn to play, and the next piece I will compose. There´s never a boring moment.

No matter how much time or money I lose in the process, it´s always worth it.

I´ve just released my second single with string orchestra: Luminoso. You can listen to it by clicking here.

Enjoy, and have a great day.

Claudio.
