An unusual request

Yesterday I got asked to play at a wedding.

In Australia.

For me to be asked to play at a wedding is highly unusual. I did play at weddings before though, especially when I was a teenager in my home country (Perú).

Back then, I mostly played weddings on Sunday mornings. Early mornings. That meant that I sometimes went partying on Saturday evenings with my elegant suit on, just so that I could be ready and get on time to the wedding the next morning right after partying, without having went back home or slept any bit… those were wild times.

If I were to do anything remotely similar today, I probably wouldn´t arrive at the wedding… just because I would either be dead or in a coma.

Anyways, I don´t play at weddings anymore. I haven´t done so for at least 20 years.

I have nothing against it, it´s just not my line of work. I´m a concert artist.

I wouldn´t do it even if, like this man, you offered me a week´s stay in Australia with all expenses paid and a pretty generous downpayment.

I guess some people just want to have their wishes fulfilled, no matter what the cost is.

Oddly enough, this man specifically wanted me to play a piece of mine for him at his wedding. Apparently, his soon-to-be wife loves it. I myself find it a bit too sad of a piece to play at a wedding… but hey, I´ve got nothing to say about other people´s choices.

You can decide for yourself if you agree with their musical choice by listening to it on this video which I´ve recently published.

Have a great day.

Claudio.

P.D. In case you ever wondered, now you know that chances are I won´t play at your wedding…

P.D.D. Unless of course, you´re my super friend (in which case I´d do it for free)…
