The two rats and the accordionist, I´m not making it up...

There are 37 bridges in Paris.

Once, on Pont Neuf, there was a grown man running away from a giant balloon about twice his size. I honestly had never seen a balloon that size in my whole life! He seemed terrified but no-one helped him. Me neither…

I saw many things while overpassing Paris´bridges…

Another time I saw a man on Pont Alexandre feeding some bread to a couple of friendly rats.

He was sitting on the floor but didn’t look like a beggar.

He sported a fine hat, a clean brown coat, and blue Chinoise pants. The rats were calmly standing on top of his legs and nibbling on the bread.

What a sight!

Another time, on the Pont de Carrousel (a beautiful bridge overlooking the Louvre which I frequently crossed) I saw an accordionist playing a joyful but sweet melody. This melody haunted me for a few days and then slipped my mind.

But the memory of the feeling was still there.

A few years later I started a series of short compositions, each with the name of one of the bridges that I used to walk through while in Paris.

When composing the piece for this beautiful bridge de Carrousel, even if I couldn’t remember the melody I had once heard from that mysterious accordionist, I imprinted in the piece the feeling I had while listening to him, as faithfully as I possibly could.

There are 37 bridges in Paris.

To be honest, I would’ve thought there would be many, many more.

But there are many, many more stories to be told about the bridges of Paris.

This piece tells a story. The story of me and the Pont du Carrousel.

I hope you enjoy it: Pont du Carrousel.

Have a nice day.

Claudio.
