True Romantic Music
“Is instrumental music not the most independent art, in that it scorns the aid of words and thus only expresses its distinctive, unique essence? It is perhaps the only truly romantic art, for its only subject is the infinite.”
E.T.A. Hoffman wrote these beautiful words in his short essay: “Beethoven´s Instrumental Music.”
It´s funny. I love songs and all kinds of music with voice.
However, I hardly ever pay attention to the lyrics.
It´s only the melodic qualities that seduce me and lure me into the universe of the piece. Only afterward, when I know the song inside out, do I listen carefully and discover the literary sense of it.
When it comes to great masterworks, often, music and words are a match.
But there´s some subliminal being communicated through notes themselves.
I have no proof, but neither do I have any doubts about it.
That´s why instrumental music might just be, as Hoffman says, the quintessential romantic art.
Just like I promised, today is the last day you´ll be able to purchase my new Bach album. As I mentioned, it´s nearly sold out and I want to keep a few copies for sale on my concerts.
So if you don´t want to miss out on one, this is your last chance.
Have a nice day,
Claudio.
