Things that make me panic
The differences between a bandoneon and an accordion are many, but not enough for people to realize them.
They will always think of an accordion when seeing a bandoneon, unless they know the instrument beforehand.
Many bandoneonists are even offended or have some sort of panic when their instruments are called accordions…
…but I think that´s perhaps a bit foolish.
After all, bandoneon enthusiasts exist only within a small niche in an already small world: the world of free-reed instruments (like accordions, concertinas, and bandoneons).
Some of you reading here probably never even knew the bandoneon if it weren´t for a video of mine that popped into your feed.
Some experiments become more successful than others, and musical instruments are only experiments in their first phase.
Violins, pianos, and guitars only exist because of a succession of multiple experiments throughout a lengthy period of trial and error, after which a significant amount of people had to be enticed enough to learn how to master the instrument and develop the techniques to play it.
It´s such a lengthy and complicated process that it makes me wonder how could it even happen…
just like I wonder how on earth could an idea have evolved so far as to become a cigarette to be smoked, or a recipe for bread to be baked.
I mean, first, you have to invent flour, then somehow develop the whole process of making the bread, and then the number of people and generations to perfect it…
These sorts of thoughts sometimes torment my fragile mind.
Like for example yesterday night, I made the big mistake of opening my Instagram and seeing the posts on my feed, something I very rarely do.
I saw a picture of our Sun compared to some other intergalactic monster sun that was a zillion times bigger. It made me panic…
Those are some of the silly things that at times torment my mind.
But confusing my instrument with an accordion or anything else doesn´t torment me at all. That´s why I learned to say accordion instead of bandoneon when I´m asked “what instrument is that” at the airport security check.
I´m finishing the sale of my first studio album Suite Latinoamericana. It was recorded 10 years ago (and yes, it has bandoneon in it) but some copies have been found recently.
The full story (and purchase link) can be found by clicking here.
TOMORROW will be the last day I´m selling them.
After that, they´re gone, probably forever. If you haven´t made up your mind yet, you have a few hours left.
Claudio.
