The Music of the Soul vs. the Ego
I struggle with ego in music. It’s easy to tell when someone is playing from the heart or from a place of self-importance.
And honestly? The latter is everywhere.
Why? Maybe it’s insecurity.
Maybe it’s a need to prove something.
It shows up in different ways—playing too loudly, overcomplicating things, forcing complexity where silence would say more.
I get it. But I can’t stand it.
I don’t care how talented, powerful, or perfect you are. What matters is whether you’re a good human being. Because that shows in your playing.
Music doesn’t lie—it reveals. You can’t hide behind technique. If your ego leads, it sounds like showing off. If your soul leads, it sounds like connection.
So, musicians, artists, people, when you play or you do your craft, what do you reveal? A soul—or an ego?
Have a nice day,
Claudio.
