Rules

“Works of art make rules, rules don´t make works of art.”

Debussy's sentiment reflects his belief that music should not be confined by strict rules and formal structures, but rather should be guided by the artist's intuition, creativity, and emotional expression.

This perspective was central to Debussy's approach to composition, which often broke away from the traditional rules of harmony and form that dominated Western classical music.

This quote by him has become one of the most shared among musicians. It´s also one of my favorites.

Yesterday would´ve been Debussy´s birthday.

Today I´ve included two absolutely beautiful pieces by him at the top of my piano playlist, performed by myself: The Ballade, and the prelude “The girl with the flaxen hair”. Listen to them here.

Enjoy, and have a great day!

Claudio.
