My opinion on Dudamel´s resignation

My (unrequested) opinion on Gustavo Dudamel´s resignation from the Paris Opera is:

Good for him.

I struggle very much with responsibility, once I´ve taken it.

Not because I´m irresponsible or that I don´t deliver what I promise. On the contrary, I always do what I commit myself to doing.

And THAT is the problem.

What I mean, is that often I´ll take too many responsibilities, more than what I can handle.

And when I realize that I can´t possibly deliver what I promise with the best quality possible, it´s hard for me to decide to end with something I´ve committed to doing.

Even if no one would be negatively affected by it.

Even if nobody would be there to hold me to my word.

It´s just a thing that I impose upon myself.

At this point in my life, I´m finally learning to let go of those unnecessary things that I´ve forced myself to do.

Time is the most valuable thing I have, and I´ve decided to spend it in the best way possible with the best quality possible.

Because nobody else, not my loved ones, not my fans, not my detractors, will live my life.

Only I will.

So, Gustavo Dudamel, one of the best and most influential orchestra conductors in history, has the responsibility of delivering excellent performances and enrichening the lives of people.

But before all that, he has the responsibility of living his own life in balance and dedicating his time to whatever he wants to do. Like his family, for instance.

And we will keep seeing or hearing him perform with orchestras around the world for a long time, thank god.
