Not for closed minds

I don´t see playing classical music works with different instruments than they were written for as something particularly innovative.

It just reveals a different form of expression, sheds a different light, and possibly refreshes the music a bit.

But some people see it as musical blasphemy.

Going against the composers´ intentions has always been upsetting for purists.

I have no problem whatsoever with purists. When coming from truth, conviction, and respect towards others, just like with religions or political stances, I see it as a very respectful, even honorable position.

But when minds are closed, ears become deaf and hearts turn senseless.

Being a purist doesn´t mean you shouldn´t be able to enjoy different means of expression than those you´ve decided to use. I´ve got a few acquaintances who are strictly purists but can also be moved when hearing something from the opposite side of the interpretative spectrum.

The possibility of enjoying all types of good art, even when you wouldn´t do it that way, is something that all artists should be able to do. This will either influence you, make you improve, or reinforce your conviction on what you already do. A win-win situation in every case.

To pay homage to different ways of expressing old or well-known works of art, I´ve created a new playlist with versions of music performed by top-notch performers on instruments that were not meant for those works.

Enjoy, and have a great day.

Claudio.
