Mantaining sanity.
I´ve talked about it before.
And everybody knows it by now.
But still, it´s hard not to fall into the trap:
Just one more video, just one more post, just one more reel, just one more…
…suddenly, it´s 2 in the morning and you can´t remember what you´ve been doing for the past 3 hours other than watching your phone.
To be honest, this has never happened to me.
I mean, not for three hours…
But it has happened to me sometimes with shorter amounts of time.
The only way I´ve found to combat this is to actually decide to stop doing it and stick to my decision permanently. It´s a lifestyle choice, just like deciding what I eat, or if I exercise or not.
I don´t let myself have the choice of not exercising or eating unhealthy at any time. It´s simply something I don´t do (unless I´m ill and can´t exercise, or those few times I´ll eat a cheat meal).
The same goes for the internet on my mobile phone. I use it only and exclusively to create, to work, to learn, and to search for things that inspire me.
To speak the truth, I find plenty of that on Social Media. There´s an endless amount of fascinating creators posting interesting and inspiring content on a daily basis.
There´s plenty of literature, science, painting, photography… and music of course. Endless amount of music. I discover a new piece of music every single day. Without the internet, this wouldn´t be possible.
So, the internet is whatever you want it to be. It can be a distraction and a curse, or it can also be a powerful tool to improve our lives.
Here´s my suggestoin for today for giving it great use:
The phenomenal Chinese pianist Yuja Wang has just released an incredible album with the LA Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel performing all of Rachmaninov´s piano concertos, which is some of the most beautiful music ever composed as far as I´m concerned (also one of the most difficult music to play on the piano).
And all this was recorded live, not in a studio! Certainly, it is a historical and incredible feat.
Here is the link to listen to the album. It´s a lot of music. But well worth the listen, ideal for a weekend of submerging yourself with beautiful and often passionate melodies.
Have a great weekedn!
Claudio.
