A little rain isn´t that bad...

It almost never rains in my home city of Lima, Perú.

Lima is mainly built on top of a rather humid desert. It´s humid because it´s on the coastline right next to the sea, but it´s still a desert.

In all the 18 years that I lived in Lima before I moved abroad, I only saw “pouring” rain once. Yet that was nothing compared to the summer storms we usually see in Europe or other parts of the world, or other regions in my country like the mountains or the rainforest.

But there is something that we did have in great quantities during the winter months: garúa.

According to google translate, the Spanish word garúa is translated to “drizzle” in English.

It´s a rain so thin that often it doesn´t even seem like rain but just moist in the air.

I idealized “real” rain in a romantic image of wet walks through the wet pavement, singing in the rain, or cozy afternoons drinking some tea by the fireplace while it pours rain outside. Like in the movies.

Of course, I had experienced none of that.

I didn´t know that living in The Netherlands for 8 years would be the end of my idealizing rain… especially when I had a white dog that I needed to take out for walks at least three times a day; coming back home with him turned black in mud from the eternal rain.

But anyways, my latest piano album is partially about my childhood so I had to make an idealized piece dedicated to my romantic childhood view of rain.

Have a nice day, whether it´s sunny or rainy :)

Claudio.
