I´m doing a tough job today

Rehearsing is a tough business.

Especially if it’s with a symphony orchestra, you’re a soloist, and you play bandoneon.

It’s so rough that I went twice to the gym yesterday: once in the morning right after waking up, and once in the evening in my orchestral rehearsal.

Because playing bandoneon is really like going to the gym. You don’t believe me? Read further and watch the clip at the end.

I´ve gotten frequent requests about teaching bandoneon, especially in the past year when I’ve been constantly becoming viral on social media.

And I always say the same thing: I don’t teach.

I´ve even been offered great sums of money for it. But money is not enough stimulus for me to do something I don’t want to do.

I barely have enough time to do anything else, but that’s not the real reason.

The real reason is that it’s not my priority.

And even if most musicians feel like they have to teach in order to survive, I decided long ago that I was going t make a living primarily out of playing concerts.

Something that comes with it-s pros and cons…

Cons like being away from home for a week and getting physically tested by rehearsing with an orchestra every single day.

But of course, the pros are amazing. I wouldn’t be doing it otherwise.

Still, the amount of time I get to be onstage is infinitely less than the time I’ve spent and still spend preparing for a concert. How do I manage to stay focused and motivated?

I take a great risk in not ever having a stable job by being a freelance concert artist in a world where there’s a great amount of competition.

But none of that scares me. And I’ve been living exclusively out of it for the past 10 years.

In the near future, I’m going to launch a membership course that delves deeper into the mindset and actions required to become a successful concert artist. I’m still in the developing phase.

But it will have all the information I would’ve wanted to know 20 years ago. I would’ve reduced my actions to focus only on those that bring me the closest to my ideals and for sure I would’ve come much further than I have.

It will help anyone in the music industry but also outside of music and the arts. There will be something in it for everyone.

BUT, it’s not out yet. The only thing you can do now if you’re interested is to write an e-mail to [email protected] with the subject membership course and you’ll be periodically updated about it.

And now, you can watch a clip of me performing the bandoneon here: Bandoneon and Orchestra.

Have a great day.

Claudio.
