Frost

Technically it´s not yet winter here, but this morning it was -1 degrees Celsius, very cold for Madrid.

But of course, that´s almost laughable for a Finn.

The lowest temperature I´ve ever felt in my life was -40 degrees Celsius during a particularly cold period back when I lived in Finland. It was around 2003 or 2004, I can´t remember exactly when it was.

But what I can remember about it was waking up early as usual and covering up with all the thermal clothing I had, leaving home to head to the conservatory for my daily routine of practicing piano, walking for about 100 meters, and not being able to go any further. The harsh winds were throwing tiny ice particles to my face which felt like needles in my eyebrows (the only exposed parts of my body were my eyes) and the extreme cold was just too much for me. So I gave up, I headed back home, and I made myself a cup of hot coffee.

However, for a Peruvian from Lima who had never seen snow in his life, I did have a great resistance to the cold.

A a matter of fact, I loved it. I loved the snow, the ice, the frost. And incredibly, I became an ice-fishing and ice-skating enthusiast.

I´ll tell you more about it tomorrow. For now, let me share a new piece with you, inspired by one of the most beautiful things I´ve ever had the pleasure to experience: the Finnish winter. Harsh, yet magical.

Kuura is my newest piece, you can listen to it here.

ENjoy, and have a nice day,

Claudio.

P.D. Yes, Kuura is a Finnish word.

P.D.D. Tomorrow I´ll tell you more about it.
