If Only I Could Fly

Summer is slowly coming to an end

Just a week ago it was 40 degrees (Celsius) here. That´s very hot. You could fry eggs on the slides in children's parks.

Today there´s rain and thunderstorms. The smell of wet dirt. Dried-up brown leaves all around the pavement.

Yes, summer is definitely slowly coming to an end.

We´ve been home all of August. The three of us, my wife, my daughter and me.

My home is Madrid, Spain. They say that in Madrid, there are 9 months of winter and three months of hell. In Spanish it sounds much more clever: “Hay nueve meses de invierno y 3 meses de infierno.”

School´s starting for our little girl in just a couple of days. She´s anxious to get back and share with her friends all of the exciting things she did this summer. Mountains, beaches, many pools, a million hours of car rides…

For us, since we´re normally used to working non-stop, all day long, it has been impossible to keep the same workflow this past month with her at home. When she´s back every morning at school, the change will be huge.

On one hand, we´ll be able to concentrate on our work, our passion, and our life purpose, for many hours every day, which is not only great but essential.

On the other hand, we won´t get to spend as much time with our daughter as we´re used to now…

I can´t imagine what it will be like when she´s all grown up and we end up spending less and less time together. It´s the circle of life, I guess…

But well, there´s still plenty of time left while we as her parents still remain the most important thing in her life. And I´m so happy and grateful to understand (while she´s still so young) that every moment we´re spending together now is probably the most precious moment of our lives.

In 2020, during lockdown, I wrote about a zillion piano pieces. Many of them were special and remained in my repertoire ever since, but one is particularly special. A piece I composed for my daughter.

It´s called “If Only I Could Fly” and you can listen to it by clicking here.

I think it describes her very well: active, quick, cheerful, sensitive. And it´s so short since she´s so young…

Have a great day.

Claudio.

P.D. Many of you still ask about the waiting list to join the Membership, I can´t say much about it yet, more than it will take at least a couple of months until I open a spot again. But I´ll keep you updated as time goes by. Thanks!
