An exquisite tragedy

“Behind every exquisite thing that existed, there was something tragic.”

It´s been a while since I´ve read Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (the quote is from that book). It left a great impression on me, as I´m quite sure it has on you if you´ve ever read it.

In it, we can observe as outsiders how a life can be ruined through extreme self-absorption.

But also, the concept of art is explored deeply and we´re not quite sure if it serves a larger purpose, or if it only exists for its own sake.

It´s ultimately a matter of existentialism. We lead our lives as free individuals who are responsible for determining their own development and place in the world.

And, as with Dorian Gray, this can go terribly wrong.

I highly encourage you to pick up this novel if you haven´t yet. On top of all the invaluable insight into human nature, it´s highly entertaining.

You can even accompany your reading with my newly created Dark Academia playlist which you can listen to here.

Enjoy, and have a great day.

Claudio.
