Doubting the soul
“Ah, you doubt the soul? Well, listen to Beethoven.
This music is the radiance of a deaf person…
The word is there, always present.
Beethoven, with all the pores of his soul open, penetrates it. He hears the harmony and makes the symphony.”
Again, Victor Hugo. This time, he expresses his deep admiration for Beethoven.
Hugo's romantic sensibility resonated with the grandeur and emotional depth of Beethoven's music, which embodied the ideals of the Romantic movement that Hugo himself championed in literature.
Both men, in their respective arts, were seen as pioneers of emotional intensity and creative independence.
Today, I´ve added a masterful performance of Beethoven´s grandiose "Egmont Overture” by the Berlin Philharmonic, conducted by Herbert von Karajan, at the top of my Classical playlist. You can listen to it here.
Enjoy, and have a nice day,
Claudio.
