Does it really rain that much in NL?
I used to live in the Netherlands for, actually, quite a long time.
And it did rain. A LOT.
…or at least that’s what it felt like.
According to a blog post I read on my way to the airport, the average annual rainfall in NL is “only” 790 mms.
I´ll be completely honest, that number says nothing to me. I have no idea how to calculate that in comparison to how wet I used to get when I was on the streets. Often, I was so wet that it was harder to walk because of the extra weight on my soaked clothes.
But, for some reason, now that I´ve been living elsewhere for almost 12 years, every time I visit Holland the weather is great: Sunshine, no rain. It´s as if I would´ve brought the Spanish weather with me.
I’ve been playing a concert here yesterday (at this moment, I’m sitting in the lounge in the airport waiting for my flight back home) and I´ve been remembering that the toughest thing about the rain for me was: mobility.
At times, I felt like I was imprisoned at home, unable to go for a walk (something that I very much enjoy doing).
There´s a piece I wrote that is partly inspired by those countless days spent indoors, watching the rain pour on my balcony. It´s called Softly. You can listen to it now and if it happens to be raining, wherever you are, I hope it soothes you and gives you a bit of warmth. Listen to it here.
Enjoy, and have a nice day.
Claudio.
