The debt I´m paying
I have a debt…
…that I can’t ever repay. But, I’ve just settled a part.
Let me explain.
I was a young boy when I moved on my own to Finland from Perú. Well, a young adult actually, but to me it seems like I was just a boy back then.
The experience of living there for four years had its ups and downs.
One of the downsides was that it was very cold and dark. And I got depressed.
Very depressed.
I was so depressed, that I lost the ability to enjoy almost anything. That is…
…except music. Especially Bach´s music.
I played it for hours on end. It kept me going.
It made me get up from bed and do the 45-minute walk to the conservatory, even if it was -35 degrees outside (I couldn’t afford to take the bus).
I found peace in Bach´s music.
Now, more than 20 years later, I’m a transformed person. And a transformed musician.
I’ve dedicated my last album to pay my debt to Bach and his music. Not on the piano, but on my newly adopted instrument, the bandoneon. Well, “newly”, so to say. I’ve been playing it for 20 years…
It was launched just two weeks ago, and since then it has already garnered over 50,000 streams on Spotify alone. I guess quite a few more on iTunes, Deezer, Tidal, etc.
If you’re up to date on nowadays´ ways to consume music, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

In a way, aren´t we all in debt with Bach?
Have a great day.
Claudio.
