Creativity (and what stops it)

As a musical creator, I sometimes feel that creativity is like an open jam session with the universe.

It’s not about playing great or writing the perfect notes, but about feeling the pulse of inspiration and letting it guide your hands. Both when you play and when you write music.

Sometimes, creativity flows effortlessly like a familiar melody; other times, it’s a discordant riff you struggle to make sense of.

There are days in which I spend hours trying to get something done, and at the end of the day, it feels as if I´ve achieved nothing.

Nothing at all.

It´s frustrating. Very.

But it’s important to remind oneself that it is in those moments of experimentation, of embracing the unknown and even the mistakes, that new sounds emerge and something entirely fresh is born, even though you might not know it until days, weeks, months, or even years later.

Today, I´ve finished writing a short triptych which I will premiere in a few weeks in Germany. Most of it comes from some drafts that I started years ago and which I thought would lead nowhere. And today, after finishing it and publishing the scores, I feel thankful for the hours spent.

Creativity thrives when you trust the process and let the music take you somewhere unexpected.

And to end this post, here´s a piece of advice from my own experience: nothing will stop your creativity as effectively as the fear of making a mistake.

Sometimes, it's in the raw, unscripted moments—those 'mistakes'—where true emotion lives and the melody finds its freedom.

Have a nice day,

Claudio.
