Baroque or Classical?
Often I get corrected by internet know-it-alls when I say that Bach´s music is Classical music.
So, let´s review the term.
Classical music is a broad term that generally refers to a tradition of Western art music that has its roots in liturgical (religious) and secular (non-religious) music from the late medieval period, roughly around the 11th century, and spans several eras, including the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern periods.
However, the term is often used to describe music composed from the mid-18th century to the early 19th century, which is known as the Classical period. This period was characterized by the works of composers like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Joseph Haydn.
However, "classical music" can also be used more generally to refer to all Western art music, including the music from earlier periods such as the Baroque period (1600-1750), which includes composers like Johann Sebastian Bach. Thus, while all Classical period music is classical music, not all classical music is from the Classical period; it can also encompass Baroque, Romantic, and even modern works.
So, next time you get corrected about this, you know what to say :)
Have a nice day,
Claudio.
P.D. Take a listen to my Classical playlist :)
