The antidote to unrest

In the world we live in, it seems like there´s plenty of unrest and disagreement.

People just don´t seem to get along. In many cases, it doesn´t even seem they want to.

Why are we focusing on negative issues all the time?

I would say that as humans, we´re wired to.

Haven´t you ever had an urgent need satisfied, only to then no longer even think about it?

Whenever you catch a cold, you only want to feel good again. But once you´re well, you don´t acknowledge it and in time, you don´t feel lucky to be healthy anymore.

Or when you are out of money, and desperate to make ends meet. But once you get it back together, you forget about it.

Once problems are solved, you´re wired to go looking for the next problem.

It´s a survival instinct.

The problem is, we don´t live in an environment full of threats as we did hundreds or thousands of years ago any longer.

We´re far better off than ever before. But we don´t acknowledge it or feel lucky about it.

Music has the power to counteract this negativity.

In what way?

Well, in several.

For one, it brings us together, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.

People actively involved in music or in the arts, not necessarily as professional or practicing amateurs, but also as an active audience, tend to have a wider vision of good in society and this brings much positivity to our lives. Besides, it enriches us tremendously on a personal level.

I believe in the power of music.
